September 8, 2016

New work by USW historian Richard Allen appears in the just published The Atlantic World of Anthony Benezet (1713-1784): From French Reformation to North American Quaker Antislavery Activism.

A Quaker of French ancestry, Anthony Benezet was a pioneer anti-slavery activist in the mid-eighteenth century. Contributors to The Atlantic World of Anthony Benezet examine his life and his community. USW’s Richard Allen provides an essay on the Quaker whalers of Nantucket Island in the age of the American Revolution.
